Personal Training in Willoughby
At Fortified Body Gym in Willoughby, personal training isn't a workout, it's a strategic, individualised approach to becoming the strongest, fittest, and most resilient version of yourself. Whether you're new to lifting, returning after time off, recovering from injury, or chasing serious performance, every session is built around you. No mirrors, no ego, no random workouts. Just expert coaching, science-backed programming, and the kind of attention to detail that creates real, lasting results.
Most personal training is just supervised exercise, a trainer counts reps while you work through a program they didn't really design for you. We do things differently.
Every personal training session at Fortified Body Gym is delivered by a qualified, experienced coach trained in the Fortified Body Method. Our standard is set by our founder and head trainer, Dan Bradley, who brings over 20 years of fitness industry experience, including work with professional athletes, alongside a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, a Diploma of Sport, and a Certificate IV in Fitness. Every coach on our team trains under this standard, and every program is built on exercise science, not fitness trends.
We follow a simple principle: your body must earn the right to go heavy. That means we don't load you up with weight before you've earned the movement quality, the joint integrity, and the structural readiness to handle it safely. We build foundations, then we progress. The result is strength that lasts, not strength that breaks you.

Who Personal Training Is For
Complete Beginners
If you've never lifted, never set foot in a gym, or haven't trained in years, personal training is the safest and most effective way to start. We'll teach you proper technique from day one, build your confidence in the gym, and give you a foundation that makes everything you do afterwards more effective. Most beginners spend their first month learning movement patterns and building base strength before we touch heavy loads.
Returning to Training After Time Off
Whether you've taken a break for work, family, injury, or any other reason, returning to training is its own challenge. Your body isn't where it was, but you remember where it used to be, which is a recipe for re-injury. We bridge that gap properly, rebuilding capacity in the right order so you can get back to the level you want without setbacks.
Members Aged 30 to 70+
A significant portion of our personal training clients are aged 30 and over. As we age, training needs to become more intelligent, not less ambitious. We program around the body you have, accounting for joint history, recovery capacity, and the specific demands of your life. Strength training is one of the most powerful tools for healthy ageing, bone density, muscle preservation, balance, and metabolic health, and we know how to deliver it safely.
Post-Injury or Post-Rehab
Once your physio has cleared you, what comes next? Many people fall into a gap between rehab and full training. Personal training is the bridge, progressively rebuilding the strength, capacity, and confidence in the affected area until you can train without thinking about it. We collaborate with your healthcare team when needed.
Experienced Lifters & Athletes
If you've been training for years and want a coach who can refine technique, program intelligently, and push you beyond plateaus, we work with serious lifters too. Whether your goal is competition, sport performance, or simply continuing to progress after decades of training, we bring the technical depth to make it happen.
What a Personal Training Session Looks Like
Every session begins with a quick check-in, how you slept, how you're feeling, any niggles or stresses we need to factor in. We then move into a warm-up specifically tailored to that day's work, not a generic mobility flow.
The main session follows your program for that block, typically structured around a primary movement (squat, deadlift, press, or their variations), supporting strength work, and accessory exercises to address any weak links. Every personal training session is tracked through our in-house app on dedicated iPads, logging every lift, set, personal best, and the total tonnage of your session. You can see exactly how you're developing over weeks, months, and years, and we use that data to program your next progression intelligently.
Throughout the session, you'll get hands-on technique coaching, real-time feedback, and clear explanations of why each exercise matters. You'll leave knowing what you did, why you did it, and what comes next.
Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes, conducted at our Willoughby gym at 8 Prentice Lane.
Want personal training with a partner, family member, or small crew? Semi-private personal training is one of the smartest options we offer. You train alongside one or two other people under a dedicated coach, with fully customised programs built individually for each person.
You get nearly all the benefits of one-on-one personal training, programming, technique coaching, progression, at a significantly lower per-person cost. Many of our clients prefer it because training with a partner improves accountability, can make sessions more enjoyable, and dramatically improves long-term consistency.
Suitable for couples, parent-child pairs, friends training together, or anyone who wants to share their training journey with someone they care about.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not at all. A significant portion of our personal training clients are complete beginners. In fact, starting with a coach is the smartest possible way to begin, you learn proper technique from day one and avoid the bad habits most people pick up training alone.
-
For most goals, two to three personal training sessions per week is the sweet spot. Beginners often start with two sessions per week and add a third as they progress. We'll recommend a frequency at your free consult based on your goals, schedule, and recovery capacity.
-
Yes, but probably not in the way most people expect. Strength training builds muscle, which increases your resting metabolism and changes your body composition far more meaningfully than chasing the scale. Combined with thoughtful nutrition guidance, personal training is one of the most effective long-term approaches to body composition and metabolic health.
-
Just yourself, comfortable training clothes, a water bottle, and clean indoor training shoes. We provide everything else, including all equipment.
-
Group training is excellent, coached, programmed, capped at 8 members per session, and great value. Personal training is for people who want fully individualised programming, undivided coach attention, and the flexibility to train around specific goals, injuries, or constraints. Many of our members do a mix of both.
