Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question before you book your free trial? You're not alone. Here are the questions we get asked most often. If you can't find your answer below, get in touch and we'll happily help.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes, we offer a free trial week so you can experience our small group training, personal training, and the gym environment before committing.

You can book your free trial week here or get in touch and we'll set up a quick chat first to understand your goals and match you to the right sessions.

What's the maximum class size?

All our small group training and group fitness sessions are capped at 8 members per class. This means you get genuine coaching on every rep, proper technique correction, scaled programming, and real attention from your coach. You're never just a face in the crowd.

What are your membership prices?

Memberships start from $55 per week for small group training, with personal training, semi-private training, and combined options also available. You can see our full pricing here on our memberships page, or get in touch and we'll talk through the option that best fits your goals and schedule.

Is this gym suitable if I'm new to strength training?

Absolutely. We work with new lifters all the time, people who've done cardio classes, yoga, running, or no training at all, but have never properly lifted weights. You're exactly the kind of member we love coaching.

Here's how we handle it. Every program starts with the basics: learning proper movement patterns, building joint stability, and earning the right to add load. We follow a simple philosophy, your body must earn the right to lift more weight. That means we don't load you up before you've learned how to move well. We build foundations first, then progress you safely from there.

For total beginners, we usually recommend starting with one of two paths. Personal Training is the safest, most accelerated way to learn, you get one-on-one coaching tailored entirely to your starting point. Alternatively, you can join our small group classes straight away, where every session is scaled to your level by experienced coaches.

Not sure which is right for you? Book a free consult and we'll talk through your goals and recommend the best place to start. No experience required, no pressure, no sales pitch, just an honest conversation.

Where exactly are you located?

We're based at 8 Prentice Lane, Willoughby on Sydney's Lower North Shore. We're easily accessible from Chatswood, Artarmon, Naremburn, Crows Nest, North Willoughby, Castlecrag, Northbridge, Roseville, Cammeray, and Lane Cove. There's ample parking on Willoughby Road, Frenches Road, and Borlaise Street.

You can also get directions on Google Maps.

What types of training do you offer?

We offer personal training, semi-private training (2–3 people), small group training, group strength, group conditioning, group fitness, Olympic lifting, private boxing, private Muay Thai, and online training. Every option is delivered by experienced coaches with a focus on safe, progressive performance.

What makes Fortified Body different from other gyms in the area?

Four things. First, our coaching standard, every session is led by a properly qualified coach, not a class instructor reading from a script. Second, our class size cap of 8 means real coaching, not crowd control. Third, every single session is tracked. Each member has access to their own iPad running our training app, which logs every lift, every set, every personal best, and the total tonnage of every session, so progress isn't guessed, it's measured. Fourth, our philosophy: no mirrors, no ego, performance over appearance. We care what your body can do, not what it looks like.

Do you have personal training available?

Yes. We offer one-on-one personal training and semi-private personal training (2–3 people sharing a coach at a much lower per-person cost). Both options come with fully customised programs built around your individual goals, schedule, and starting point. Book a free consult.

I'm older and new to training. Is this gym right for me?"

Yes, but with honesty about what works best for you. For some our mature members, our small group classes (capped at 8 with expert coaching) work very well, and we have members at this stage thriving in the classes. However, to be upfront: our group classes are built around a performance-focused training style that can feel intimidating or unsuitable when you're starting your training journey later in life or perhaps returning to training after a long break in your later years. In our experience, personal training may be the better fit (at least to begin with). You get coaching tailored specifically to your body, your history, your joints, and your goals, at a pace that's appropriate for you rather than a class average. It's safer, more effective, and far more enjoyable.

We've worked with members well into their 70s through personal training, with brilliant results. If you're 60+ and considering Fortified Body, book a free consult and we'll talk through whether personal training is right for you.

Do you offer online or remote training?

Yes. Our online training program delivers fully customised programs through an app, with video demonstrations, technique check-ins via video, and ongoing coach support. It's ideal for travellers, members who've moved away, or people who train at home but want our coaching standard.

What should I expect at my first session?

It depends on how you'd like to start.

If you'd like to chat first (recommended): book a free consult or a free PT session, and we'll sit down to discuss your goals, training history, any injuries or considerations, and walk you through the gym. From there we'll book you into your free trial week and match you to the right sessions for your level. No pressure, no sales pitch, just a chat.

If you'd rather just dive in: you can book straight into your free trial week without a consult. We'll meet you at the gym, introduce you to your coach, and get you into your first session.

Either way: every new member completes a quick pre-exercise questionnaire before training so we know about any injuries, medical considerations, or training history that affects how we'll coach you. Members also join TrainHeroic, the app we use to track every lift, set, and personal best, so your progress is logged from day one.

If you're not sure which path is right for you, book a free consult, it's the easiest way to get oriented and meet the team before committing to anything.

Do you do Olympic lifting, boxing, or Muay Thai?

Yes to all three. We offer private Olympic lifting coaching (snatch, clean and jerk), private boxing, and private Muay Thai sessions. All are run by experienced coaches and suitable for beginners through to advanced. These are great options for cross-training, learning a new skill, or building athletic performance.
