Class Schedule at a Glance
Why Group Training at Fortified Body Is Different
Small group training is common. Small group training done properly is rare. Four things separate what happens in our Willoughby studio from what happens in almost every other gym:
1. Every class is capped at 8 members
The average group training class in Sydney runs anywhere from 12 to 25 members per session, even at small studios and franchised group training gyms. That means one coach, one room, and not enough eyes to actually watch your technique on every rep. At Fortified Body, no class exceeds 8 members. Every session, every rep, every lift, a qualified coach is watching, correcting, cueing, and progressing you. You're never just a face in the crowd.
2. Technique comes before everything else
At most group training gyms, sessions are built around intensity, how hard you can push, how much you can sweat, how tired you feel by the end. Technique is a footnote, and often barely coached at all. That works fine until you're loading serious weight, and then it becomes the reason people get hurt or plateau.
At Fortified Body, technique comes first. Load, volume, and intensity come after. Every session, our coaches watch your movement, correct your setup, and refine your positions before we progressively add weight. Our founder Dan Bradley, Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, over 20 years coaching everyday members and professional athletes, set the standard, and every coach on our team trains under it.
And to be clear: if you're chasing intensity, you'll find it here in spades. Our conditioning sessions will leave you flat on the floor. Our strength sessions will have you moving weight you didn't think you could. But you'll do it with technique that holds up, joints that stay healthy, and progression that lasts. Intensity isn't the enemy, poor technique under intensity is. We give you both.
3. Every session is tracked
This is the part of what we do that almost no other group training gym offers. Every member has access to their own iPad running the training app we use, which logs every lift, every set, every personal best, and the total tonnage moved in every session. Your progress isn't guessed or vaguely remembered, it's measured. You can look back at last month, last quarter, last year, and see exactly how far you've come. That kind of evidence is what keeps members training for years, not weeks.
4. Programming is progressive, not random
Every workout is written to progress you specifically, not to leave you exhausted for the sake of it. We follow the principles of periodisation, structured progression, and science-based programming. Our simple philosophy: your body must earn the right to lift more. We build foundations first, movement quality, joint integrity, structural readiness, then progressively add load, volume, and intensity. The result is strength that lasts, not strength that breaks you.
The Two Types of Group Sessions We Offer
Our weekly small group training schedule alternates between two focuses:
Strength Classes — Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Conditioning Classes — Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Strength Classes
Our strength classes follow the principles of periodisation, structured to progressively challenge your muscles, build lean muscle mass, increase strength, and support fat loss. By systematically varying intensity and volume over time, we maximise your results and prevent the plateaus that stall most gym-goers within their first six months. Whether you're aiming to build muscle, increase strength, increase bone density or improve body composition, our strength sessions will get you there safely and efficiently.
Every strength session is programmed around a primary movement pattern. squat, deadlift, press, or their variations, with supporting strength work and accessory exercises designed to address weak links, improve joint integrity, and build the kind of body that performs.
Conditioning Classes
Our conditioning sessions combine training styles including HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) , EMOM (Every Minute On The Minute), AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible), and Tabata plus more, all designed to burn calories, improve cardiovascular fitness, and boost metabolism. Unlike random high-intensity workouts, our conditioning classes also follow structured periodisation. That means you're not just being punished for the sake of it; you're being progressed intentionally to build genuine work capacity, avoid plateaus, and maximise fat loss and endurance gains.
Whether you're looking to build stamina, burn fat, or push your athletic limits, our conditioning sessions will meet you at your current level and progress you from there. Beginners are welcome, every workout is scaled to your ability.
What a Class Looks Like
Every session at Fortified Body follows a clear structure, no random workouts, no guesswork, no "just show up and see what happens." Here's what you can expect from the moment you walk in:
Arrival and Check-in
You arrive a few minutes before your class starts, put your bag down, and grab your personal iPad from the wall. On the big screen and on the iPad you can see the day's session, every exercise, every set, every load, already programmed and waiting. If it's your first session, a coach will meet you at the door, walk you through the space, and set you up.
Before every class, your coach talks the room through the day's session. What are we doing today, and why? Where does this session sit within our periodisation cycle, a strength-building phase, a peaking phase, a deload week? Which muscles or movement patterns are we targeting? Every member starts each session understanding not just what they're about to do, but why, so training feels intentional, not random and so members can understand what they are doing and why.
Warm-up (Strength Days)
Strength days begin with a coach-led warm-up specifically tailored to the day's session. If it's a squat day, we prime the hips, ankles, and thoracic spine. If it's a press day, we prepare the shoulders and upper back. The warm-up isn't optional or generic, it's the first coaching moment of the day and sets you up to lift with quality.
The Main Session
The main session follows the day's programming, a primary movement pattern on strength days (squat, deadlift, press, or their variations), or a structured conditioning block on conditioning days (HIIT, EMOM, AMRAP, or similar).
Throughout every session, expect constant coaching. Coaches move between members correcting technique, cueing setup, calling out adjustments, and answering questions. If you're due to progress, we'll load you up. If your technique isn't ready for the weight you're on, we'll tell you to lighten the bar. Technique comes before everything else, we're not afraid to regress you if it means keeping you healthy and getting the movement right. That's how progress that lasts is built.
Every load, every rep, every set is logged in your iPad as you go, so there's no guessing where you left off last week.
After the Session
Your session data is saved automatically, every lift, every set, every personal best. You can look back at any point and see exactly how you've progressed. If you have a question about programming, cueing, or a lift you weren't sure about, you can message your coach directly through the app. The coaching doesn't stop when the session does.
Who Small Group Training Is For
One of the most common questions we hear is "will this be for someone like me?" The short answer: almost certainly yes. Our members range from those returning to training after years away, through to professionals fitting sessions around a busy week, through to experienced lifters wanting proper programming. Everyone is scaled to their level, everyone is coached by name, and everyone progresses on their own trajectory.
Beginners and Returners
If you've been away from training for a while and want to build back safely, small group training is a great fit, every workout is scaled to your ability, technique is coached from your first session, and you're never asked to do more than you're ready for.
A note for complete beginners: if you've genuinely never lifted before, or don't yet know the fundamental lifts, we strongly recommend starting with one or two personal training sessions before joining group classes. A coach can walk you through the basics, how to squat, deadlift, and press safely, so you can join a group class with confidence and get the most out of every session. It's not compulsory. It's just the smoother path in. Your free trial can include a PT session so you can experience both.
People Who Want Expert Coaching Without the PT Price Tag
Personal training delivers unmatched, fully individualised coaching, but it comes with an unmatched price tag too. Small group training solves that trade-off. At Fortified Body Gym our classes are capped at 8, so the level of coaching you receive is closer to personal training than to any other group format in the area. You get expert coaching, technique correction, real progression, and full session tracking, for a fraction of the cost of PT. For most members, it's the best value coaching available in Willoughby.
Most of our members are busy, full-time jobs, kids, calendars stacked with commitments. Small group training works precisely because it doesn't require you to figure anything out. You show up, your program is written, the coach cues you through every rep, and 45 minutes later you leave stronger. No wandering the gym floor guessing what to do. No self-motivation required. Just structured, effective training at a time that fits your day.
Professionals Who Value Their Time
If you've been training for years but want proper programming, refined technique, and coaching that pushes you past your plateaus, small group training works for you too. Many of our long-term members are experienced lifters who could theoretically train alone but choose group training for the accountability, the coaching, the community, and the objectively better results that come from proper structured programming they don't have to write themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions About Group Training
Do I need experience to join a group class?
For most people, no, every session is scaled to your ability and technique is coached from your first class. That said, if you've genuinely never lifted before, we strongly recommend starting with one or two personal training sessions first, so a coach can teach you the fundamentals. Your free trial can include a free PT session so you can experience both.
How many people are in each class?
Every class is capped at 8 members. That's it. No exceptions, no "just this once" oversized sessions. This cap is what allows genuine coaching on every rep for every member, and it's what makes our group training closer to personal training than to any other group format in Willoughby.
Yes. Your first week at Fortified Body is completely free, full access to any class on the schedule, no commitment, no pressure. It's the best way to see whether the coaching, the programming, and the community fit what you're looking for. Book your free trial week here.
Can I try before I commit?
Every class is bookable through our booking system, so you can shift your schedule week to week based on what fits your life. Can’t make your usual Tuesday morning session? Book Thursday lunchtime instead. No rigid commitment to specific class times, just consistent access to the whole schedule.
What if I can't make my usual class time?
How is Fortified Body's group training different from most franchised group training gyms?
Three main differences.
First, class size. Franchised group training gyms often run 15 to 25 members per session. Ours is capped at 8, which is roughly a third the size. That fundamentally changes what a coach can do in a session.
Second, programming. Most franchised group training gyms follow a global program written centrally and delivered by whichever coach is on shift. Our programming is written locally, follows the principles of periodisation, and progresses you over weeks and months, not just session by session.
Third, coaching focus. Most group training gyms are built around intensity and calorie burn. Fortified Body is built around technique first, then progressive loading. Different philosophy, different results.
